The weather has gotten cold, it’s hard to get out the door for the gym, and daily comfort meals keep sounding better. When everything is stacked against your motivation, then it is more important than ever to make space for your goals. Not only does consistency help us with weight loss goals. Staying active in the winter can help to improve our mood and energy levels when things are looking gray.
These five tips will help you get out of your cozy bed and build the life you really want to live.
1. Set a Winter Specific Goal
This can be to prep for a spring 10k, to be able to do 10 pull ups, or to perfect your headstand. Keeping our sight on something we want to achieve can help to remain focused and motivated towards that goal.
2. Make Adjustments!
It is perfectly fine for your off-season to be imperfect. If it’s too challenging to get to the gym early in the dark mornings, then fit in a lunch-break walk or stretch. Schedule fewer days in the gym and more active recovery for the rest of the week. it is ok to adjust to what your body is needing without viewing fitness as all-or-nothing.
3. Have a Workout Partner
Accountability is critical when it comes to these challenging months. If you’ve noticed that you’re skipping more and more of your workouts, then reach out to a friend to join you. Join a workout class. Or click here for the built in accountability of working with a trainer.
4. Get Some New Gear
Having the right gear can make staying on top of your fitness a bit easier. Warm clothes for outdoor workouts, or some new equipment for indoor workouts will eliminate some of the winter barriers.
5. Try Indoor Workouts
If the roads are messy and you can’t leave the house, then don’t worry! There are endless options for at-home workouts. We can work together to come up with an at-home plan for you during the cold months.
